• En junio de 2004, una consulta mundial de alto nivel llegó a conclusiones similares, codificadas en el Llamamiento de Nueva York (New York Call to Commitment: Linking HIV/AIDS and Sexual and Reproductive Health), que hace hincapié en que las iniciativas de salud sexual y reproductiva y de lucha contra el VIH/SIDA tienen que reforzarse mutuamente, pues el VIH, el SIDA y la mala salud sexual y reproductiva se basan en las mismas causas fundamentales comunes, incluidas la desigualdad entre los géneros, la pobreza y la marginación social de las poblaciones más vulnerables.
